Gold Dental in Petersburg accepts Virginia Medicaid for adults and children and FAMIS for eligible children. We provide qualifying Medicaid denture and crown services. We also provide qualifying Medicare Advantage denture and crown services; benefits vary by plan.
Cardinal Care Smiles is Virginia's Medicaid and FAMIS dental program, administered by DentaQuest. Adult Medicaid members age 21 and older have comprehensive benefits including exams, X-rays, cleanings, fillings, root canals, gum treatment, dentures, and extractions or other oral surgery. Qualifying crowns are also a benefit. Coverage depends on eligibility, the procedure code, clinical criteria, frequency limits, and any required authorization or review; accepting Medicaid does not guarantee payment for every procedure.
Virginia Medicaid provides comprehensive dental benefits through age 20; FAMIS children's coverage is for eligible children under age 19. Cardinal Care Smiles, administered by DentaQuest, includes preventive and restorative care. Orthodontic treatment requires qualifying medical necessity and DentaQuest approval before treatment; not every child or type of braces qualifies.
Adult bridges and orthodontics are not covered by Cardinal Care Smiles. Root canals are not restricted to front teeth; crowns have separate clinical criteria.
DMAS states that covered Cardinal Care Smiles dental services have no costs or copayments for eligible members using participating providers. This does not mean every proposed service is covered. Before choosing non-covered treatment, ask for an itemized estimate and a written agreement explaining your responsibility.
